Football legend Jimmy Greaves dies aged 81
Tottenham's record goalscorer and England icon passes away
Greaves was one of the most prolific strikers of all time, scoring over 500 goals in his club career.
Jimmy Greaves, one of the greatest strikers of all time and one of England's best ever players, has died at the age of 81.
Greaves began his career with Chelsea, before moving to Tottenham in 1961. He spent nine years at White Hart Lane, scoring a club record 266 goals in 379 appearances.
Greaves also won 57 caps for England, scoring 44 goals. He was part of the England team that won the 1966 World Cup.
After retiring from playing, Greaves became a successful television pundit. He was known for his wit and incisive commentary.
Greaves was diagnosed with dementia in 2015. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning.
He is survived by his wife Irene and four children.
